Criminology and Forensic science


Department of Criminology & Forensic Science was started in the year 1965. The department offers this subject in both B.Sc. and B.A. degree courses. It is housed in the main building with a spacious lecture hall named as Dr. E.H. Sutherland lecture hall. Department has maintained a very good museum with rare collections.  Museum has the collection of different wax models, photographs of pioneers in Criminology & Forensic science, motor vehicle and train accidents charts, finger print and foot prints photographs and Toxicological specimens etc. There are two well equipped laboratories and a separate library with a collection of nearly 1000 books and journals. The department imparts training in various aspects such as Police Science, Criminology, Penology, Victimology, Forensic Science, Criminal Law, Forensic Medicine, etc. It arranges exhibition during traffic and crime prevention week with the co-operation with local police. The departmental Study Circle is named after a well-known Criminologist Dr. Walter Reckless. The study circle arranges various seminars, symposia, debates etc to train the students in the academic pursuits.  The modern teaching methods are practiced in the department and the teaching methods include the Suitable educational teaching aids like LCD projector and OHP projector and sophisticated instruments. The success rate of students for both BA and B.Sc. courses is around 95%. A Gold Medal has been instituted in the name of the founder Head of the Department Prof. K.P.Venkatesh Murthy. Every Year one student is awarded with Gold Medal.

The college has a governing council is headed by the Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Syndicate Members, two staff members of the college and the Principal as secretary. It guides and regulates all the activities of the college.
