Chemistry & Biotechnology


The Department of Chemistry was established in 1924, which is the nucleus of Karnatak Science College.  At the beginning, under the leadership of eminent chemists, Prof. Alim Chandani and Prof.K.S.Naragund, the Department grew to the greater height.  Since then it has trodden the path of more than eight decades.  Department had the services of Scholarly 20 Teachers with Doctorate Degree.  The department is enriched with upgraded laboratories and independent library with ICT facility and serves for about 40 students for Post-Graduate in Chemistry, 800 students for undergraduate course, 1100 students in PUC and 11 students under Ph.D. program.  Few under graduate students of our department have undergone training in National and International reputed institutions like JNCASR-Bangalore, IITs, NCL.

 

Many of our teaching faculty members are recognized as Research Guides from Karnatak University, Dharwad.  As on today, 10 students have completed Ph.D. and been honored as the Young Scientist in National and International conferences for their outstanding contribution. The Biotechnology Division, was started in the year 2002 with necessary infrastructure and equipments catering to the needs of students.

Semester System

Semester system for undergraduate students has been introduced to make their education to go hand in hand with the prevailing social, cultural, economic and technological environment. The courses are designed based on the needs of society in general.


Governing Council

The college has a governing council is headed by the Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Syndicate Members, two staff members of the college and the Principal as secretary. It guides and regulates all the activities of the college.
