Scheme of Examination

There shall be an examination conducted by the University at the end of each semester. For the odd semesters it will be in the month of November / December and for the even semesters it will be in the month of April / May as notified by the University from time to time. 

The candidates who fail in any odd or even semester and also who intend to improve the performance shall appear for the respective examination only when such odd or even semester exams are conducted in the subsequent academic years.

 

The composition of marks for the Theory / Practicals and Internal Assessment for the each paper shall be 80 and 20 respectively. Duration of the examination of theory papers and practicals shall be 3 hours and 4 hours respectively.

 

Practical examinations in different subjects shall be conducted by the University at the end of each semester.  The candidate shall submit the record book for practical examination duly certified by the course teacher and the H.O.D/ Staff in charge. Practical examination includes viva, evaluation of lab records, reports of field work, study tour, Project work etc.

 

Each paper of 100 marks shall carry 20 marks as Internal Assessment (IA).Out of the 20 marks, 10 shall be internal test and remaining 10 shall be for assignments / class records/ skill development. In each paper two tests of one hour each shall be conducted for the award of IA marks for a maximum of 20 marks reduced to 10 marks later. First test shall be conducted in 8th week and second test in 12th week of the respective semester. The average marks obtained in the two tests for 10 marks shall be taken as final internal assessment marks for the test component. The award of IA marks for Assignments/ class records / skill development shall be based on the submission of the same by the candidates duly certified by the concerned teacher. IA marks shall be displayed on the notice board one – week prior to the commencement of the semester end examination. There shall be no provision for improvement of IA marks.

 

Practical examination paper of 50 marks shall carry 10 marks as Internal Assessment. Practical test will be conducted at the end of each semester by the college carrying 10 marks.

 

A candidate shall be declared to have passed a semester end examination only if he / she obtains not less than 40 % marks (32 marks out of 80 for theory and 16 marks out of 40 for practicals) in the semester end examination for theory examination shall have appear for practical only and vice versa.

 

A candidate who fails in any paper under Group I, II and III shall take the examination only in the failed papers at any specific examination within the period of six years from the date of registration to the semester I.

 

Percentage of marks for declaring class in case of science students is based on the aggregate marks obtained in the optional subjects in all the six semesters. 70 % and above for Distinction, 60 % and above but less than 70 % - First class, 50 and above but less than 60 % - Second class, 40 and above but less than 50 % - Pass class.

 

Only those candidates who have studied and completed all the VI semester in the first attempt itself within the stipulated period of 3 years in Karnatak University, shall be eligible for ranking provided they score 60 % and above marks.

 

The students, who intending to improve his/ her performance in one or all papers of the respective semester after the declaration of the said semester is allowed to  do so, subject to the payment of fees as stipulated by the University only at the time when the examination of such semesters is conducted next time. Such students may improve their performanance in the desired papers along with any papers, in which their have failed, as per existing syllabus prevailing at the time of examination of the respective semester. The students are not eligible for applying for the improvement of their results in respect of internal assignments, practical, project reports, viva, fieldwork et. if any. The student who applies for improvement shall not be eligible for the award of any rank, prize gold medal on improvement of his/her performanance. The students allowed to apply for improvement of his/her results only once in any semester, in respect of any or all papers.

 

Application for improvement shall be submitted by the students through the principal of the college to the Registrar Evaluation along with prescribed fees and the necessary documents on or before the last date prescribed for submission of such application forms.

The college has a governing council is headed by the Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Syndicate Members, two staff members of the college and the Principal as secretary. It guides and regulates all the activities of the college.
