Rules And Regulations, Course of Study, Admission procedure and scheme of examination for B.Sc.(Semester) course.

 

Karnatak University has introduced semester system for B.Sc. students to make their education to go hand in hand with the prevailing social, cultural, economic and technological environment. The course is designed based on the needs of society in general.

 

Rules and Regulations

 

a) Eligibility for admission:


1) A candidate who has passed the two year Pre-University course (10+2) of the Pre University Board in the state of Karnatak consisting of at least two science subjects as optional or H.S.S.E./ C.B.S.E./ I.S.C.E. or any other course considered as equivalent thereto by the Karnatak University shall be eligible for admission to B.Sc.degree course. 

2) A candidate for B.Sc. degree offers at least two of the optional subjects, which he/she offered at the Pre University.

3) A candidate offering Physics as an optional subject in B.Sc.degree course should have studied Mathematics at Pre-University course.

4) A candidate offering Statics as an optional subject in the degree course must offer Mathematics subject. 

5) A candidate offering Genetics, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Industrial Fisheries as optional subjects at the B.Sc.degree course should have studied Biology subject at the Pre-University course and must offer Chemistry as one of the optional.

6) The students opting Microbiology as one of the optional subject must offer Chemistry and Botany or Zoology subjects.

 

Note: Students from outside Karnatak state admission to B.Sc. Sem I should submit   Eligibility Certificate from K.U.Dharwad (Original & two attested Xerox copies) along with the application. form

 

b)Duration of the Course:

 

The duration of the Bachelor Degree in Science  shall be three academic years consisting of two semesters in each academic year and each semester shall have a minimum  of 16 weeks of instructional work. However, the candidate shall complete his/ her degree within six years from the date of  admission to the first semester of the degree course.

 

c) Medium of Instruction: The medium of instruction and examination shall be English.

 

d) Subject of Study: Subjects of study shall comprise of three groups.

 

Courses of study for B.Sc. candidates

 

Group I – The candidate may opt any one of the languages given below along with English as the compulsory subject.

Group-II (For all six semester) – The candidate may opt any one of the following combinations as per University No. KU/Aca ( S & T)/(SMP -84 /UG.Regroup.com.sub/11-12/187 dated 02-01-2012.

Note: The above list of combinations may change as per university directions
 
Group – III (For semester I to IV only) – The candidate has to study the following compulsory subjects in each semester.
 
Sem I- Indian Constitution.
 
Sem II - Human rights and Environment Studies
 
Sem III - Personality Development & Communication skills
 
Sem IV – Computer Applications
 
e) Change of subject: Change of subjects may be permitted by the University, if requisition from the candidate is received within 30 days from the last date for admission to the first semester as fixed by    University. The change is permissible on the specific recommendation of the Principal and on payment of necessary fees to the University as prescribed by the University from time to time.  
 
f) Attendance: A student shall be required to attend lectures, seminars, practical etc.  The eligibility for appearing the Examination,  students should have  more than 75%  of attendance of the total number of classes held in each semester.  If the student represents his/ her institution / University / Karnataka state /Nation in sports/NCC/NSS/Cultural or any other officially sponsored activities, he/she shall be permitted to claim attendance for actual number of days  participated, subject to a maximum of 20 days in a semester based on the recommendation of the Head of the institution concerned.
 
g) Transfer of admission: Transfer is permissible from one college to another college within the jurisdiction of the University and also from one University to another University within the state, by written permission from both the colleges and eligibility certificate issued by the Karnatak University, Subject to availability of seats and subject combinations offered by the candidate.

Governing Council

The college has a governing council is headed by the Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Syndicate Members, two staff members of the college and the Principal as secretary. It guides and regulates all the activities of the college.
